About two years ago I set forth on a journey. . . of trash. To complete my BFA in graphic design, I decided to study my waste habits by collecting five months of my trash, and visually presenting my discoveries to my audience. I expected to be blown away by the amount of my waste, completely change my habits, and share that others, too can (and should) change. But learned something much different — that it's all personal. What we waste becomes personal to us (even if we use it for 5 minutes), and our personal interactions with people cause an even greater change than hoarding our self-betterment to ourselves.
I “finished” this project a year and a half ago, but I know it is not truly concluded. As I have learned from my project, social change does not happen only by bettering one’s self, but also by sharing those changes and ideas with others. I know that this is the foundation of TED talks and believe this is the perfect opportunity for me to continue sharing my experiences with others.
I will present my idea by using images, graphics, multimedia, my voice, and perhaps a little trash.
