Decribe your idea

Eight months ago I created a project in the US called "Hope Book". I have been searching and saving regular questions that cancer patients might have like: Why me? What should I do in the future? Should I continue to study? Me and my team are sending each question to different celebrities and successful people around the word that had cancer before. Once we receive a significant amount of answers the idea is to make a book and donate it to thousands of young adults with cancer around the world. Patients will first answer a question themselves, then by turning the page they will compare their question with others and eventually find hope and maybe a new perspective for life. More description and details are found at: www.hopebook.org

Why do you want to share your idea with TEDxUChicago in 2013?

TEDxUChicago is a beautiful place to share thoughts and ideas with
a very diverse audience. I had the opportunity to attend in 2012, and
I liked the way everyone was interested to hear new ideas and
projects. Cancer is a topic that is around all of us, I mean, everyone
knows someone that has or had cancer and TEDxUChicago could help with the wide spread of my cancer project. I wish to hear feedback from the audience from students and to get more people involved. My project in general is a way in which people can help without going to hospitals or speaking face to face with cancer patients. People can help by sharing comments in the website, drawings, poetry, or whatever you want to give us help inspire these young adults.

How will you share your idea in a creative way?

I will talk about experience with cancer and how I feel as a survivor. I will talk about the way I see life and what I have accomplished. I will show some pictures of the young cancer patients I have met and share with the audience some of their thoughts on as well. Then, I will explain my idea and how it has been shaped and measured. At the end I will say to the audience how they can help in the cause. I want to use pictures and ask open questions to the audience with the goal of making them feel what its like in the shoes of others. TEDxUChicago will also provide a unique environment in the sense that it is mostly students that are within the age group that the book is actually aimed for.

Hello everyone, my name is Michael Imiak, I am part of the HOPEBOOK TEAM I am currently working on the development of the idea and project as well. I start working in this project because I feel that my only goal in this live is to help people, and I want to leave a mark. When I say leaving a mark I refer on being an example and encouraging other people to help and create ways to help anyone that is in need. I would like to thanks everyone of you for providing the support that is boosting our desire to work and help people. Personally, I believe that HOPEBOOK is an amazing idea and it will provide support to millions of people with cancer. I also want to say to my team that every day we are one step closer to our goal, and is now when we have to work harder and harder. Thank to all the people that vote and help this project come to light. One last thing, I encourage all the people to keep spreading the word and keep thinking how we can change the world because HOPEBOOK is going to change the world!!!!! Thanks for everything, Michael Imiak

I never saw a project like this one. I think HopeBook will reach thousands of confuse minds. Young adults with cancer think that they are losing their time, while they are learning life lessons. Nice project! Good Luck!

My mom its a cancer survival.. when i was told her prognosis i was petrified I dint know what to say or how to say ANYTHING to comfort her. My guess is that it would had been very helpful for my mom at that moment to have a diary, like the one you have in project, so she could express her feelings and deepest fear and been able to read about other well known people who survived . Good luck Danny I think it's a great idea you will help not only the person who suffer this terrible disease but their family will appreciate as well.

Danny .. my mom is a cancer survival.. i was petrified when i was told of her diagnose.. i didn't know what to say or how to say anything.. just been close to her and pray as i never did it before.. even i question if i believed in G_d .. my story has a happy ending I still have my mom, it would have been very helpful for her to have a diary like the one you propose so she could have the chance to share in her intimacy her deepest fear. Good luck Danny I think its a great project that would help MANY people. Count with my unconditional support.
