CBL’s mission is to provide university-based members with an organized system of pick-up basketball games to promote community outreach both on and off the court. CBL promotes this vision through recruiting individuals of all basketball skill levels into its community, fostering a love for basketball, and connecting with the local youth. In its current year, CBL is active as a league at the U of C with over 120 active members, with sponsors such as Citibank, and a regular season. CBL operates a Community Outreach Program that sends members to local low-income area schools to speak to students about the value of education. In addition, its "Sponsor-A-Student" Program provides financial and mentorship support to local college bound students.
CBL is a unique organization because its vision is to function with dual purposes that embrace each other for a greater purpose. On university grounds, CBL is a league that serves individuals from all dimensions of a university Off campus, CBL utilizes the incredible resources that it has through its network to serve its local youth as a community outreach program. CBL believes that with this unique approach to community organizing and outreach through a beloved sport, it can make a empowering impact on communities throughout the Chicago area. As it seeks to connect with other universities such as the U of C, CBL believes that TEDXUCHICAGO is the perfect opportunity to share its unique vision. For more information, please visit chibbl.com.
